POSSIBLE ROGUE TRADERS GOWER |
||
|
Good Afternoon
Your local Policing team would like to make you aware that we have received a report that a male person has been knocking doors offering Tarmac work in Gower. At this time we are unable to ascertain whether this is legitimate or not ,however please see the below advice from Police . "Better to be safe than sorry"
Police advise extreme caution regarding "tarmac rogue traders" who cold-call residents claiming to have "leftover tarmac" from a nearby job. These scams often involve high-pressure sales tactics, poor-quality work, and final prices that are significantly higher than initially quoted.
Key Police Advice to Avoid Tarmac Scams: Never agree to work from cold callers or doorstep traders. Do not be pressured by claims that the offer is "for today only" or that work is "urgent". Get at least three written quotes from reputable, established companies. Never pay cash upfront or allow traders to drive you to the bank to withdraw money. Check credentials, such as a permanent business address and landline number, rather than just a mobile number. Use approved trader schemes, such as Buy With Confidence. What to Do If Approached: Politely refuse and close the door. Ask the trader to leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable. Note down vehicle registration numbers and descriptions of the individuals. Use a "No Cold Callers" sign or a door chain to avoid engaging. How to Report Rogue Traders: Emergency (If they are aggressive or refuse to leave): Call 999. Non-Emergency (Suspicious activity): Call the police on 101 or report to Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133. Fraud: Report to Action Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040
